Sell gold and fine jewellery in Recoleta

We buy gold in any form, jewellery with or without stones, coins and bullion. Daniel Varela, gemmologist and jewellery expert, examines every piece himself at Av. Alvear 1712: it is weighed in front of you, the figure is explained, and if you accept, you are paid on the spot.

Gold jewelry and pieces the house buys and appraises — Joyería Recoleta

What we pay

How much is paid for gold

The starting point is the day's international price of fine gold, the same the world over. A factor is then applied according to the fineness of the piece, and the result is multiplied by the grams verified on the scale. The calculation is done in plain sight, with the live quotation on screen.

These are the house factors. They are the same for everyone, they are not negotiated, and they do not depend on how much you bring:

FinenessPaid
24k · 99990 %
22k · 91681 %
18k · 75063 %
14k · 58545 %
9k · 37522.5 %

The table is the floor, not the ceiling. A piece with stones, a signed piece or one of a sought-after period is not bought by weight: it is appraised as a piece, and the figure is another. That is why it is worth showing it before melting it down.

Work it out with the live quotation

The figures published on this site are a technical reference and do not constitute an offer to buy. The final figure comes from the appraisal in person, with weight and fineness verified.

The process

How selling here works

A single visit — nothing is left on deposit and there is no need to come back another day.

  1. You arrange the visit

Write on WhatsApp or call, and we agree on a day and time. We receive clients Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Av. Alvear 1712, by private appointment: in a separate room, with no shop window and no onlookers.

  2. It is appraised in front of you

Scale, loupe and touchstone on the counter. Daniel Varela examines every piece himself and says out loud what he is looking at: weight, fineness, stones, condition and provenance. The appraisal is free and commits you to nothing.

  3. You are paid on the spot

If the figure suits you, payment is made there and then, in cash or by transfer, with a receipt. If it does not, you take the piece back untouched and there is no charge for the appraisal.

Frequently asked questions

Before you come to sell

  • Is there a charge for the appraisal?

No. It is done in person, free of charge and with no obligation. If the figure does not convince you, you take the piece home and nothing is charged for having looked at it. There is no commission and no consignment cost either: the house buys outright.

  • How much do you pay for 18k gold?

63 % of the value of the fine gold the piece contains. An 18-carat piece is 750 parts pure gold per thousand: if a gram of fine gold is quoted at 100 dollars, a gram of 18k is paid 63. As the quotation moves every day, the exact figure is confirmed at the appraisal, with the real weight on the scale. You can estimate it beforehand with the live quotation calculator.

  • I inherited jewellery and do not know what it is. Should I still bring it?

Yes. Working out what you have is part of the appraisal and costs nothing: what is gold and what is not, of what fineness, which stones are genuine and which are not. If it is an estate or a large lot, tell us when you book so that we can set aside more time.

  • Is it better to sell the piece whole or just the gold?

It depends on the piece, and that is precisely the question an expert answers. A plain wedding band is worth its weight in gold and nothing more. A piece of fine craftsmanship, one set with stones or one from a sought-after period is worth more whole than melted — and melting destroys that value irreversibly. Hence: look first, decide afterwards.

  • Do you buy jewellery with diamonds, emeralds or pearls?

Yes. The metal is weighed and the gems are valued separately, by cut, colour, clarity and size. If a stone has a certificate —GIA or another laboratory— bring it: it speeds up the appraisal and usually improves the figure.

  • What do I need to bring?

Your identity document and the pieces. Nothing else: no invoice, box or certificate is needed to sell gold by weight and fineness. If you have papers for a gem or a signed piece, bring them along. A receipt is issued for the transaction.

  • How and when am I paid?

The moment you accept the offer, in cash or by immediate bank transfer, with a receipt. There are no deferred payments and no consignment, unless you prefer it that way.

  • Do you buy watches?

This department buys gold, jewellery, coins and bullion. If a watch has a gold case, we buy the gold it contains. If it is a high-end piece, worth far more as a watch than as metal, we refer it to the group's watch house, which appraises it for what it is.
