Frequently asked questions
Sell, appraise and buy with confidence
Clear answers to what clients ask us most about appraising, buying and selling gold, fine jewellery, diamonds, coins and bullion in Buenos Aires.
- Where can I sell gold or fine jewellery in Buenos Aires?
- At Joyería Recoleta we buy gold, fine jewellery, diamonds, coins and bullion. Daniel Varela, a gemmologist and appraiser working since 1984, values the piece on the spot and we make an offer the same day, with immediate payment. We receive clients by private appointment at Av. Alvear 1712 (between Rodríguez Peña and Av. Callao), and we also answer on WhatsApp.
- Do you appraise gold and fine jewellery free of charge?
- Yes. Appraisals are free and with no obligation to sell. You can send photos via WhatsApp for a preliminary value range the same day, or book a private appointment at our Recoleta house for an in-hand evaluation.
- Do you buy gold, inherited jewelry and antique pieces? How do you pay?
- We buy gold, inherited jewelry, antique pieces and signed jewelry. We pay in cash, in US dollars or in pesos at the day rate, with a formal receipt and under absolute discretion.
- Who appraises the pieces and what are their credentials?
- Every piece is evaluated by Daniel Varela, gemmologist and expert appraiser of fine jewellery and watches, working since 1984, formerly appraiser and buyer for Casa Escasany, Joyería Ricciardi, Schiffini (Mar del Plata), Vendemmia and other renowned Argentine jewellers. Each appraisal is made on the specific piece against the current international market, never on generic averages.
- Where are you located and how do you receive clients?
- We are at Av. Alvear 1712 (between Rodríguez Peña and Av. Callao), Recoleta, Buenos Aires. We attend by private appointment Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and also arrange home visits for collections that cannot be moved.
- Do you buy inherited jewellery or pieces with no box or certificate?
- Yes. We buy and appraise inherited jewellery, antique pieces and items with no box or certificate: missing paperwork does not cancel value when the piece is genuine and its provenance is consistent. We check hallmarks, metal purity and stones with gemmological instruments.
- Do the pieces you sell come with a guarantee?
- Yes. Every piece is checked by Daniel Varela and carries the house's guarantee of authenticity: material, purity and stones are itemised on the formal receipt for the transaction.
- Do you hold jewellery auctions?
- Yes. We hold auctions of fine and high jewellery. You can see upcoming events and lots in the auctions section of the site, or ask us on WhatsApp to take part.
